Wellington's best range of domestic locksmith products and services

Our domestic and residential customers demand good value, convenience and security. We can undertake a wide variety of key, lock, handle and security hardware jobs.

Call 0800-566-1111 to request service.

The following may help you understand the more typical jobs.

Change key combinations
This is done when house keys are lost, tenants have changed or you’ve changed house. There is no need to change the actual main lock mechanism so there's your first saving! Just let Beveridges change the pinning code inside the lock and produce different new keys. This delivers much improved security at minimum cost. Most key change jobs are requested on a Monday - I wonder if you can guess why? More...

Tip -
Check to see if your back and front door can be keyed alike (same key fits both doors).

Answer to the question in paragraph one - Unfortunately it appears that many changes in relationships are initiated in the weekend which results in door locks needing to be changed on Monday. How sad....
Deadbolt and Dead latches
(double cylinder)

Deadbolts and dead latches are typically fitted to upgrade door security at a cost effective price. The double cylinder deadbolt and dead latches shown are the most secure as they requires a key to lock and unlock on both sides, as well as the strong bolt throw mechanism. More...

Tip -
Beware of cheap deadbolts that have light metal and plastic components, and hollow bolts.

Ranch slider deadlock (double cylinder)

Ranch slider door locks are often overlooked by the home owner but are often targeted by intruders as an alternate entry point. Many ranch slider locks don’t have a key locking mechanism on both sides and therefore aren’t deadlocks.  More...

Tip -
Check that your ranch slider lock is latching and locks securely (no loose levers and won’t open with force) and the sliding door is secure in it’s track.
Aluminium door locks

Aluminium doors and security screens are common and their locks are typically different to those found on wooden doors. We can repair, service or supply these types of locks. Some modern aluminium door locks also incorporate additional internal frame security bolts that secure the top and bottom of the door by lifting the internal handle upwards (called "4 point" locking). More...

TIP - (1) Be carefull that the handle on a "4 point" lock has not been actuated (lifted) while the door is opened as this can lead to the bolts being bent if the door is closed firmly which can damage the complete locking function. (2) Additional deadbolts cannot be easily fitted to existing aluminium doors but, double cylinder deadbolt function can often be achieved with a new lock core (assumming it isn't already a deadlock type of course!).
Mortice lock

A good quality five lever mortice lock is very secure and takes a lot of beating. Many older NZ homes have two lever mortice locks that aren’t very secure. We can usually replace a two lever lock with a modern three lever lock very cost effectively.

Tip -
Typically, the more levers the lock has the more secure it is. The five lever mortice lock is almost always fitted as standard lock in the UK as they meet UK insurance standards.   NZ doesn’t have a similar standard.  More...

Window latches and security stays

There are several kinds to suit both wooden and aluminium joinery. They usually come in common colours such as white, black and brown.

Tip -
Although reasonably priced individually, the cost of fitting these to every window soon adds up therefore, prudent customers tend to target accessible windows that pose the greatest entry risk (e.g. lower level windows). We can help you decide which windows deliver the best security benefit on site. More...

Window locks

There are many kinds to suit both wooden and aluminium joinery. They usually come in common colours such as white, black, silver and brown and, can usually be keyed alike (same key fits all locks).

Super, lock and patio bolts

Bolts offer an alternative way to secure ranch slider, bi-fold and French doors.   They can also be used in conjunction with existing dead latches to give maximum door security. Patio bolts come in a variety of styles and colours and are relatively inexpensive to fit.

Tip - Ideally mounted to the top and bottom of an opening door, sometimes a single patio bolt can add security and give peace of mind. More...

Knob sets
(privacy, entrance and double cylinder types)

There are a multitude of styles and finishes available. We always carry a range of the common styles in our vans. The three main types of knob sets:
Privacy set
typically used on a bathroom door and has a locking button on one side of the set.
Entrance set
typically used on an external entrance door and has a key on one side and locking button on the other.
Double cylinder
typically used on external doors, is keyed both sides and therefore has a deadlock function. More...

Garage door locks  (roller or tilt-a-door)

Often a neglected lock and often roughly installed originally, we can cut keys to these or replace the lock.

Tip -
It is often more cost effective to replace the entire lock than try and repair an old and neglect one. Also, if you've lost your garage door keys, try looking for numbered key code on the interior body of the lock, or a small tag, or etched on the arms connecting the lock to the bolts at the side of the garage door. With this code we can cut you a key without having to visit your site. Now that's a saving!   More...
French door locks

These need to be fitted with care and take a little time to do so. French doors are typically quite thin, have a high quality finish and normally require a rebate kit to be fitted as well. The building industry and architects are tending to use locksmiths to install locks to ensure they’re fitted correctly.

Tip -
We’d appreciate a days notice to fit these so we allow sufficient time to do the job properly. Also, if you are booking a locksmith to fit new french door locks, let them know if the doors are paint finished or natural timber (often cedar). Natural finished french doors require the best skilled tradesman available to deliver a craftsman like finish.  More...
